Recycling Memories as Art

• Her bears come first from her compassion for people and her love of sharing the art of teddy bear making with some very dear friends.

• But they also come from memories of her grandmothers' skills when they turned old clothing inside out, cut, and refashioned it into new coats and dresses. They frequently hand sewed these items, embroidering them with scraps of the wool left over when they unravelled and reknit old sweaters. Long before we began "recycling" to save the earth, they knew how to turn something old into something new and beautiful!

• Those traditional memories inspired Betty to use recycled fabric to design her Teddy Bears. She saw a way to offer a teddy bear that would turn "a cherished memory of yesteryear into a memory that would last long into tomorrow. "

"I know there are large numbers of people with old wool blankets, coats, sweaters, baby blankets, and many other forgotten treasures in their closets, attics and basements. I would like to chat with you about bringing new life to these items, so that they can sit in a place of honour, as nostalgic reminders of days gone by and of a special loved one or loved ones. My desire is for my teddy bears to bring as much joy to my customers as I find in creating them.
